3 Installation
3.1 What else do you need
M-POINT should work with any IBM-compatible 80x86-PC with DOS 3.3
or higher. It works with monochrome as well as with color systems.
M-POINT needs at least 200 KB free RAM and 150 KB free HD-space.
Of cause you also need a mailer eg. FrontDoor (2.02nc or higher),
InterMail, Portal of Power.
M-POINT has been tested successfully with FrontDoor, InterMail,
M-DOOR and Portal of Power (here only for use with external editors
like GoldEd).
M-POINT works in FrontDoor and InterMail multiline setups, when the
TASK-variable is set (FD / IM). It will put asleep all tasks when
running.
3.2 Setup
Set the environment variable for FrontDoor or InterMail, if you run
one of these frontends, eg.:
SET FD=C:\FD
or
SET IM=C:\IM
SET TASK=T (T stands for the FD-Task (1-255)
(only necessary, when running FD-Multiline)
copy all files into your nodelist directory and change to it:
M-POINT can now be started.
Type in M-POINT.EXE /SETUP and answer the questions
That's it.
M-POINT - manual page 5
3.3 Parameters
M-POINT /C
M-POINT /SHELL
M-POINT /EACH
M-POINT /H
M-POINT /SETUP
To configure M-POINT, run M-POINT /SETUP.
Actully there is no need for parameters, other than /C to tell
M-POINT to read it's config-file or /SHELL to tell M-POINT to read
it's config-file and NOT to release the mailer(s) after running
(So, in SHELL-mode, you can start M-POINT from a Nodelist-Updater-
shell w/o TACCESS-errors from the other tasks).
--
M-POINT configuration
the setup-routine within M-POINT will ask you for:
REGISTRATION-KEY - your registration key (leave blank while
testing)
POINTLIST (1-10) - the pointlist(s) to convert.
(only supply a suffix if you want M-POINT
to use a specific list. If ommitted,
M-POINT will use the most recent version)
NODELIST (1-10) - The nodelist M-POINT should use for lookup.
(only supply a suffix if you want M-POINT
to use a specific list. If ommitted,
M-POINT will use the most recent version)
Zone (1-10) - The zone number of the respective lists.
Pointlist type (1-10) - whether the Pointlist is in 3D or 4D format.
(3D = Hostformat, 4D = BOSS-format)
Examples:
Pointlist Nodelist Zone 3D/4D
POINTS24 NODELIST 2 3 (Fidonet)
GERPOINT GERNET 21 3 (GERNET)
Z_PNT_B ZYX_NET 16 4 (ZyXELNET)
+ MYPOINTS.LST REGION24 16 4 (special with matching)
+ MYPNTS2.LST 16 4 (special w/o matching)
You can create your local (fake) pointlist by pressing <ALT><F>
inside the list setup.
M-POINT will ask you for the fake-points name, location, baudrate,
phonenumber, flags and adress for every point and then creates a
pointlist, which it automatically inserts into the list of
pointlists to compile.
Logfile - the name of file you want M-POINT to use for
logging.
(full path ! eg: C:\FD\NODELIST\M-POINT.LOG)
(if left blank, M-POINT defaults to it's
homedir)
TASK - the task, FD-Variable points to (multiline
only, leave blank when single line)
UNPUBLISHED - 'No' to include point phonenumbers which
differ from their bosses, 'Yes' to make them
unpublished.
LOOKUP - whether or not M-POINT should make a nodelist
lookup in case of wrong entries in any
pointlist.
Nodelistpath - if you're NOT using FrontDoor or InterMail,
you have to give M-POINT your nodelist path
here.
your name - if you're NOT using FrontDoor or InterMail,
you can supply M-POINT with your name here.
Name of FDPOINT.PVT - if you want M-POINT to write to another file
than FDPOINT.PVT
Netmail - whether or not M-POINT should send a netmail
to a Boss who's entry in the pointlist is
wrong.
Only, if ran under FD or IM.
Listform - whether or not M-POINT should create a list
of the form 'Name, Town, Name' instead of
'Town, Town, Name'.
include flags - whether or not M-POINT should include the
point's flags in FDPOINT.PVT.
--
M-POINT - Manual page 6
3.4 Batch
Of cause you can run M-POINT in your mailerbatch, after having
copied the latest pointlists.
If you run M-POINT from a shell of a nodelist-update-tool, please
use the parameter /SHELL. Now M-POINT will NOT wake up the other
mailers by killing the FREEZE-semaphores.
If you want M-POINT to create 4-D-lists for each pointlist, call
it with the parameter /EACH. Now M-POINT will create FDPOINT.x
(x = 1, 2, 3, ..., 10)
M-POINT converts the chosen pointlist(s) to FDPOINT.PVT, which can
directly be read by the FrontDoor and InterMail nodelist compiler.
Even Portal of Power is able to use FDPOINT.PVT.
In case of error, M-POINT shows the errorlevel on exit.
! In no case run M-POINT under a multitasker or on another node of a
! network, when FD 2.02 is ONLINE !
! This will cause conflicts.
M-POINT strips doubled zone-entries.
M-POINT makes a lookup in the current nodelist in case of a wrong or
missing 2D address in BOSS entries, to determine the correct
address.
M-POINT shows errors and lookups on screen as well as in it's
logfile. It will also show Hit-MSGs, if it was able to retrieve a
correct 2D Boss address.
So from now on, some mailers that automatically update the lists,
will be online more often :-)
